IMAX & PLANETARIUM TECHNICAL MANAGER
General Description:
The IMAX & Planetarium Technical Manager is responsible for running the IMAX and Planetarium shows in a timely and professional manner, always striving for a flawless presentation. This position also oversees the scheduling and attendance of the Projectionists and maintains the proper condition and operation of IMAX and Planetarium projection booths and theater to meet or exceed established high standards.
Responsibilities:
- Operate state-of-the-art IMAX motion picture projection system and theater A/V equipment.
- Operate and maintain the Planetarium system including all related equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in the projection booth.
- Perform routine maintenance on projector, audio equipment, communication equipment and IMAX-related support systems, assisting with after-hours IMAX service calls as required.
- Perform film-handling procedures, including assembly and repair of film prints and soundtracks.
- Handle emergency situations in the Science Dome as they arise.
- Provide assistance with installation, maintenance and minor repair of technical theater equipment.
- Provide departmental follow-up on paperwork and procedures.
- Set up A/V equipment for special events in the IMAX Dome Theater on an as-needed basis for daily operations and for off-hours building events.
- Responsible for the use, maintenance, and safekeeping of job-related tools.
- Other technical and administrative duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Observatory Technician
Required Education/Experience:
University degree in media, A/V production, (or related fields) plus seven (7) years of related experience. Master's degree is preferred. Two (2) years of experience in a related field such as A/V technology, film technology, electronics, etc. and some familiarity and experience with electrical and mechanical principles or A/V systems required. Qualifications include at thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a sophisticated array of uniquely integrated and programmed audio-visual playback and projection equipment including: a Digistar II Star Projector, Kodak EktaPro 2070 carousel slide projectors, Barco series 700 and 900 CRT video projectors, computer controlled pan-tilt video mounts, and other assorted mechanical-optical special effects projection devices plus Pioneer laser disc and DVD players, S-VHS tape playback systems, a high end 5.1 sound system with multi-lingual capability, a computer based electronic audience interactive system, a multi-array house lighting system, and Sky-Skan SPICE control hardware and software. Ability to quickly trouble shoot, diagnose, and repair failed components of the above systems. Basic familiarity with Digistar II and SPICE programming and diagnostic procedures.
Skills and Other Requirements:
Preferably having the ability to speak both English and Arabic.
Candidate must be dependable, detail-oriented, and present good showmanship and appreciation for the guest experience.
Must be able to work alone in confines of projection booth for extended periods of time, as well as with groups of people.
Should be adept at troubleshooting and solving problems as they arise.
Must be willing to strictly follow rules and procedures of booth and theater.
Must be able to lift and change film reels (200 lbs.) with provided tools, and be able to climb stairs regularly.
Must have basic knowledge of maintenance of film-related or a/v-related equipment, including use of maintenance tools (soldering iron, basic hand and power tools).
Must be able to work flexible schedule, including early morning, late evening, weekend, and holiday hours, as required.
