Looking to reactivate his career with the Dec. 21 release of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Cruise has been keeping busy these days, what with his big-screen singing debut in the rock musical, Rock of Ages, currently shooting and due out next summer. 3-D movie sales on rise

Ticket sales for 3-D movies more than doubled to $6.1 billion worldwide last year, driven by demand outside North America, IHS Inc. said. Markets other than North America generated $3.9 billion, or 64 per cent, of the revenue, an increase from 54 per cent the previous year, the Englewood, Colo. research company said Friday in a statement. The global total rose from $2.5 billion in 2009, IHS said. International sales have become increasingly important for three-dimensional movies. Sales in the U.S., the biggest market for the films, were 33 per cent of the total last year, a decrease from 42 per cent in 2009, according to IHS. Read More

With actuals being reported for the weekend ended August 14, IMAX theatres generated approximately $5.5 million of box office globally, ~$2.5 million domestically and ~$3 million internationally, which included: - approximately $2.2 million of box office from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2: An IMAX 3D Experience ($1.1 million domestic, $1.1 million international); - approximately $1.4 million domestically from Final Destination 5: An IMAX 3D Experience; - approximately $1.3 million internationally from Transformers: Dark of the Moon: An IMAX 3D Experience; and - approximately $600,000 from various other titles playing...
