Francis Lawrence Plans Some IMAX for "Hunger Games: Catching Fire"

Following in the footsteps of Christopher Nolan and Brad Bird, director Francis Lawrence is planning to utilize the big big screen for the anticipated sequel The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. THR reports Lawrence will use IMAX cameras to shoot some scenes in the second installment of the film franchise based on the bestselling young adult novels by Suzanne Collins. After the film made an impressive but limited IMAX run in March, and a return in April, it's no surprise Lionsgate wants to take full advantage this time, and shooting in the large format is a way to guarantee people see it in IMAX and get their money's worth. Canada's Empire Theaters Takes IMAX Screens to Alberta, Ontario Multiplexes

The Nova Scotia-based Canadian cinema chain has acquired two more large format theaters from Imax, the first to open in Kingston, Ontario, in December 2012 and the second in Edmonton, Alberta, in May 2013. The latest deal brings the number of Imax screens scheduled to open in the Empire Theaters circuit to seven, and the number of giant screen theaters to open in Canada to 34. Cinemas Guzzo first multiplex to add second IMAX screen

Quebecois chain is first venue to offer two IMAX screens; facilitates dual language screenings and ticket demand on blockbuster opening weekends. IMAX is extending its partnership with Québécois cinema chain Cinemas Guzzo for an additional IMAX theatre system at the Mega-Plex Marche Central 18 in Montreal, scheduled to open in July. The deal marks the first time a multiplex will house two IMAX screens in the same venue.The agreement brings Cinemas Guzzo’s total IMAX commitment to five screens under joint revenue sharing arrangements and brings the number of commercial theatres open or contracted to open in Canada to 32.
