Back By Popular Demand!!!!

As the 75th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz approaches, there’s no better way to premiere this landmark film and one of Hollywood’s most precious jewels, than to return it to the TCL Chinese Theatre (formerly Grauman’s Chinese Theater) where the original premiere was held in 1939.

The film arrives at the most perfect time – the TCL Chinese Theatre has undergone its first major makeover in more than 85 years which included the addition of Hollywood’s first IMAX theatre.

For one week only, fans will have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness this classic tale exclusively in IMAX® 3D. America’s favorite characters – the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, faithful little Toto and the curious Dorothy have been enhanced through IMAX’s digital re-mastering process and converted to 3D for the first time ever. Dorothy’s red slippers will sparkle and shine like never before.

For nostalgia’s sake, we’ve found a ticket stub from the 1939 premiere, see below:

In many ways, the original release of The Wizard of Oz ushered in a new era for Hollywood as the ensuing decade became known as a golden era of Technicolor masterpieces, all dripping with color – audiences fell in love with the possibilities.  The film’s arrival to IMAX® 3D theatres can be seen as homage to the technical bounds that The Wizard of Oz shattered when it was first released.  IMAX is honored to premiere such an iconic film exclusively in our theatres, for the first time ever.

Follow the yellow brick road to your nearest IMAX® 3D theatre on September 20th to see this timeless classic for an exclusive one-week only showing.
