3-D movie sales on rise

Ticket sales for 3-D movies more than doubled to $6.1 billion worldwide last year, driven by demand outside North America, IHS Inc. said. Markets other than North America generated $3.9 billion, or 64 per cent, of the revenue, an increase from 54 per cent the previous year, the Englewood, Colo. research company said Friday in a statement. The global total rose from $2.5 billion in 2009, IHS said. International sales have become increasingly important for three-dimensional movies. Sales in the U.S., the biggest market for the films, were 33 per cent of the total last year, a decrease from 42 per cent in 2009, according to IHS. 続きを読む

SEOUL, Korea – August 10, 2011 – IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX; TSX:IMX) and CJ Entertainment, a leading Korean film production and distribution company, today announced that the IMAX release of the underwater action thriller Sector 7 contributed approximately $511,000 to the gross box office of the film’s overall opening weekend box office of $11.6 million and was the top-grossing movie of the weekend in Korea.
