IVAN GALIN, Director (Russia)

Currently the head of the Independent Cinema and Video Studio in Russia, Ivan Galin began his career in 1955 at the Central Documentary Films Studio in Moscow. The first cameraman in Russia to ascend the active volcano in Kamchatka, he has filmed such cutting-edge images and stories as the first nuclear icebreaker, The Lenin; the first animals involved in space travel; and the first cosmonauts in Russia. Films include: Dve Materi (Two Mothers), about the mother of the world’s first cosmonaut, Yuri Gagarin, and the mother of the chief spacecraft designer, Sergei Korolev; Sibir’yu Plenyonye (Siberian Captives) for which Galin won the highest prize at the Russian National Film Festival; Neob’ yavlennaya (The Undeclared War), about Vietnam for which he was awarded the Silver Dove Prize at the 1969 International Film Festival; and Krest’yane (Peasants), another film for which he received this same honor at the 1971 International Film Festival.

In 1967, Galin met and took his first shots for Graeme Ferguson’s multi-screen format film Polar Ice, which was heralded as a pioneering work at EXPO ’67. Ferguson and Galin collaborated again during the filming of the large format film BLUE PLANET. For MISSION TO MIR, Galin directed the numerous Russian sequences, including those at Star City and of the Soyuz launch.


JAMES NEIHOUSE, Director of Photography

James Neihouse has been involved in the professional film and video business since his graduation from Brooks Institute of Photography in 1976 (B.A. Professional Photography). His credits include the large format films RACE THE WIND, HAIL COLUMBIA!, THE DREAM IS ALIVE, BLUE PLANET, THE GREAT BARRIER REEF, ON THE WING, ALAMO, THE PRICE OF FREEDOM, SKYWARD, DARWIN ON THE GALAPAGOS, MEXICO and ROLLING STONES--AT THE MAX. Neihouse was Director of Photography on the large format film THE ERUPTION OF MT. SAINT HELENS, which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Short Documentary in 1980. Neihouse served as Co-director and Principal Cinematographer on the Imax production DESTINY IN SPACE which opened at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in June of 1994. He has also been an Astronaut trainer and IMAX camera equipment integration supervisor for the space team since 1988. For MISSION TO MIR, as Director of Photography, Neihouse flew aboard the Russian “Zero-G” training aircraft to capture some of the more unusual aspects of cosmonaut training.

Neihouse has also worked on many commercials, features and documentaries in other formats and owns Shot in the Dark Productions, a film and video production company based in Cocoa Beach, FL.

JANE MORRISON, Editor

Jane Morrison has been in the film business as an editor and post production supervisor for more than 20 years. Morrison started with CBC Vancouver working in TV News and Public Affairs as a sound engineer and documentary editor as well as a drama dialogue editor, sound effects editor and music editor. In 1980, Morrison formed her own company, Fine Cut Films Ltd., offering editing services for 16-35mm film, linear off-line editing, and Lightworks nonlinear editing. Since this time, she has edited hundreds of TV commercials, award-winning documentaries, music videos and specials, plus drama series such as Sea Hunt, Bordertown, Beachcombers, Stony Plain and The Odyssey.

Since 1995, she has edited the TV series Lonesome Dove: The Outlaw Years; worked on A Reasonable Woman; co-produced and edited a documentary on Tibetan Buddhism; and collaborated with the IMAX space team on the 3D film L5: FIRST CITY IN SPACE as well as MISSION TO MIR.


MICKY ERBE and MARIBETH SOLOMON, Composers

Micky Erbe and Maribeth Solomon have been collaborating on diverse musical projects for over 15 years. Their work includes the scores for numerous Imax-produced films, including: NOMADS OF THE DEEP, NORTH OF SUPERIOR, HAIL COLUMBIA!, THE DREAM IS ALIVE, BLUE PLANET, DESTINY IN SPACE, INTO THE DEEP, and L5: FIRST CITY IN SPACE. They have written Gemini Award-winning soundtracks for some of the best Canadian television series, including The Struggle for Democracy, Adderly, Street Legal, E.N.G. and Peacekeepers. Recent telefilms include Friends At Last with Kathleen Turner, Against Her Will with Marlee Matlin, To Save the Children with Richard Thomas and Dancing in The Dark. Their scores for feature films include Threshold, Care Bears II, Ticket to Heaven and Improper Channels. Solomon and Erbe have composed, arranged or produced songs and albums for such performers as Isaac Hayes, Anne Murray, Natalie Cole, The Canadian Brass and opera star Maureen Forrester.
