IMAX 101

Hey movie fans! Welcome to the IMAX 101 Series, here to give you insight on IMAX technology and what goes into making The IMAX Experience® so unique.

Explore all of the elements of The IMAX Experience and what makes seeing a movie in IMAX like seeing a completely different movie than in standard theatres. First up, we’d like to discuss IMAX sound.

Sound

A surprisingly large part of the IMAX experience is the sound. That’s what makes an IMAX movie visceral. You don’t just see an IMAX film, you feel it in your bones.

Take a look at the IMAX 101: Sound video below:

DMR

When seeing a movie in an IMAX theatre, it’s like seeing a different movie altogether. Everything from the movie itself to the theatre’s technology and design has been developed and customized to make you believe you’re part of the action. One of the key ingredients to creating The IMAX Experience is IMAX DMR, or digital re-mastering.

There are two ways to create an IMAX movie. It can either be captured with the extremely high resolution IMAX cameras or go through IMAX’s proprietary DMR process to enhance the film’s image and audio.

So what exactly does IMAX’s DMR process entail? Check out our video featuring DMR technology to find out:

3D

3D has certainly become a popular format over the past few years and many of the most highly-anticipated films will be presented in 3D. The format was designed to make you feel like you’re part of the movie, however, all 3D experiences are not the same.

IMAX has been revolutionizing the 3D moviegoing experience for more than two decades and we would like to take a moment to show you what makes IMAX 3D movies so different.
