When seeing a movie in an IMAX® theatre, it’s like seeing a different movie altogether. Everything from the movie itself to the theatre’s technology and design has been developed and customized to make you believe you’re part of the action. One of the key ingredients to creating The IMAX Experience® is IMAX® DMR, or digital re-mastering.
There are two ways to create an IMAX movie. It can either be captured with the extremely high resolution IMAX® cameras or go through IMAX’s proprietary DMR process to enhance the film’s image and audio.
So what exactly does IMAX’s DMR process entail? Check out our latest IMAX 101 featuring DMR technology to find out:

Good news 007 fans! For the first time ever, you’ll be able to experience SKYFALL™, the 23rd installment of the Bond franchise, one day early in IMAX on November 8th.
If you’re one of those eager fans who will be the first in line to see the film in IMAX, it’ll be a completely unique experience. This is because the IMAX presentation of SKYFALL will be specially formatted to feature a larger aspect ratio than the conventional release for the entirety of the film.
The filmmakers worked with the IMAX team in the post-production process to increase the aspect ratio of the film and designed the IMAX presentation of SKYFALL to allow audiences to see up to 26% more of the originally captured image.

Want to know how it’s really done? Below we discuss the step-by-step process:
