Film Grosses $8 Million Domestically in IMAX; Scores Franchise-Best Overseas IMAX Debut With $3.2 Million
LOS ANGELES – July 25, 2016 – IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX) today announced that Star Trek Beyond—the third film in the blockbuster franchise, from Paramount Pictures, Skydance and Bad Robot—opened with $11.2 million on 571 IMAX screens globally, of which $8.4 million came from 387 domestic IMAX locations and $3.2 million from 184 international IMAX sites (not including China). Star Trek Beyond now has the largest IMAX opening internationally for the franchise surpassing Star Trek Into Darkness’ previous overseas opening benchmark in IMAX of $2.8 million.
Overall domestically, IMAX accounted for four of Star Trek Beyond’s top five opening locations.
International IMAX weekend results for Star Trek Beyond were led by such notable markets as the U.K. and Russia. Major overseas markets yet to open include China, France, Turkey, Japan, as well as countries throughout Latin America.
