SEOUL, Korea – August 10, 2011 – IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX; TSX:IMX) and CJ Entertainment, a leading Korean film production and distribution company, today announced that the IMAX release of the underwater action thriller Sector 7 contributed approximately $511,000 to the gross box office of the film’s overall opening weekend box office of $11.6 million and was the top-grossing movie of the weekend in Korea. Sector 7 generated approximately $51,000 per screen on 10 IMAX screens, for a per screen average that was roughly 3.6 times that of other screens. The film, which was digitally remastered to create The IMAX Experience®, marks IMAX’s second-biggest opening weekend to date in Korea. Sector 7 is the first Korean-language film to be released in the IMAX format. Korea, with 10 IMAX theatres in operation, is the Company’s fifth-largest market globally and one of its fastest-growing. Some of these theatres are among IMAX’s highest-grossing in the world. Local language films account for approximately 50 percent of all cinematic content shown in Korea. “The opening weekend success of Sector 7 demonstrates that Korean audiences recognize that IMAX delivers the most immersive movie-going experience in cinema,” said Greg Foster, IMAX Chairman and President of Filmed Entertainment. "We are pleased to have joined forces with the talented team at CJ CGV and take fans on Kim Ji-hoon’s cinematic underwater thrill ride.”
