As the 2016 Summer Olympics wind down, IMAX and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), in collaboration with Airbnb, are partnering to bring to Rio de Janeiro the Brazilian premiere of IMAX documentary A Beautiful Planet!
The premiere event—held Aug. 19 at the UCI New York City Center & IMAX in Rio—is tied to the Green Passport campaign, an initiative originally launched in 2008 meant to encourage sustainable tourism.
Later in 2015, UNEP and Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games Organizing Committee launched the Rio 2016 Green Games Passport edition. It was a way for fans traveling to the Games to commit to best practices during their time in Rio.
The Green Passport initiative and its commitment to sustainable tourism during the Rio 2016 Olympics are perfectly in line with the environmentally conscious themes of director Toni Myers’ latest documentary A Beautiful Planet, narrated by Jennifer Lawrence. A Beautiful Planet is now playing in IMAX® theatres domestically and in select international markets.
