Striving for the ‘Business Class’ of Cinema

India, of course, is legendary for its voracious appetite for economy-class cinema, as it were. But the Canada-based company, known for its big-screen, high-end movie-going experience, is trying to offer an upgrade.
Until recently, IMAX Corp. offered its services in just two theaters operating in India, in Mumbai and Hyderabad. A month ago, it opened another in Bangalore.
It is opening two in Chennai next month, another in Mumbai in March and plans to have up to 15 by the end of next year. Delhi comes in 2014 and other big cities outside of the main metropolises are also in the sights: Coimbatore, Chandigarh, Pune and Kochi. Within five years, there could be 50.
