After serving 19 years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread, Jean Valjean decides to turn his life around and devote himself to helping others. Under a false identity, he gradually becomes a respected and prominent member of society. When he comes to the aid of Fantine, a dying factory worker, he promises to rescue her daughter, Cosette, from the clutches of the cruel Thénardiers. But his past catches up with him: Inspector Javert, a relentless police officer with a troubled past of his own, pursues him tirelessly, determined to send him back to prison. Against the backdrop of a Paris in the throes of revolution, Valjean must fight to protect Cosette and complete his journey towards redemption, through sacrifice and a quest for justice.
