FRIDAY FEATURE: A Look Back at Vin Diesel’s Film Career in IMAX
===============================================================

Welcome back to Friday Feature, IMAX fans!

In celebration of the return of action movie hero Xander Cage to IMAX theatres, we’re spotlighting the past IMAX releases of mega-star Vin Diesel, who continues to thrill audiences with his latest film — _**xXx: Return of Xander Cage**_ — set for release in IMAX starting today.

Before Diesel first donned the role of Cage in the original _xXx_ in 2002, the star took on the role of Dominic Toretto in the worldwide blockbuster franchise _Fast and the Furious_. Two installments from the franchise — _**Fast and Furious 6**_ and _**Furious 7**_ — received IMAX releases in 2013 and 2015, respectively. The latter film went on to break IMAX records, becoming the largest April box-office opening for IMAX, with $20.8 million worldwide.

IMAX Entertainment CEO Greg Foster commented on the record-breaking _Furious 7_ release saying, “We’d like to congratulate our partners at Universal Pictures, as well as director James Wan and producers Neal Moritz and Vin Diesel, for creating a highly-charged cinematic event that was perfectly suited to the IMAX format.”

Another now cult-classic role for Diesel was that of Richard B. Riddick — the post-apocalyptic bad-ass in the Riddick franchise, which last thrilled audiences with 2013’s _**Riddick**_. That film received an IMAX debut, not to mention a cool piece of exclusive art to celebrate the film’s initial release in IMAX theatres.

Last — but certainly not least — in the Diesel-IMAX film archive is Marvel’s _**Guardians of the Galaxy**_, which featured the iconic Diesel-voiced character Groot.

I mean, honestly, where would that loveable mutant plant — and really the film as a whole — be without Diesel’s varied interpretations of the line “I am Groot”? Diesel managed to create a fully fleshed-out character with just three simple words, displaying a wide range of emotions from rage to light playfulness to selfless heartbreak.

It’s a wonderfully nuanced performance, one that we’re super excited to re-visit when _**Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2**_ hits IMAX theatres on May 5.

Luckily, however, you won’t have to wait that long for another Diesel role, with _**The Fate of the Furious**_ — the franchise’s eighth installment — launching into IMAX theatres on April 14.

Bring on the Diesel!
