Introducing: The IMAX Keighley Film Camera
==========================================

A legendary landmark of filmmaking technology.

The Keighley is IMAX’s next-generation Film Camera, built to deliver the quality of the existing IMAX Film Cameras, with the functionality of digital.

Developed over two years, in collaboration with leading directors and cinematographers, including Christopher Nolan and Hoyte van Hoytema, the new fleet features upgraded electronics and software, along with technical improvements that make the cameras more efficient on set.

In a historic breakthrough, the Keighley enables filmmakers to shoot sync dialogue without compromising sound, thanks to an all-new camera enclosure (“blimp”) engineered to reduce camera noise. The blimp became the key innovation that allowed Christopher Nolan to shoot [THE ODYSSEY](/movie/the-odyssey) entirely with IMAX Film Cameras, the first feature film ever to do so.

Beyond sound and amongst many new features, The Keighley features a redesigned camera body constructed from corrosion-resistant materials, including a metal frame and carbon fiber inserts. It also incorporates a new, brighter viewfinder with enhanced optics, enabling filmmakers to compose and frame with greater precision.

Named in honor of the late IMAX Chief Quality Officer, David Keighley, and his colleague and wife, Patricia, whose work helped define IMAX’s gold standard in image and sound, The Keighley represents a new chapter in large-format filmmaking, pushing IMAX film further than ever before.
