TORONTO, May 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Imax Corporation (Nasdaq: IMAX; TSE: IMX) today announced that Fantasia/2000: The IMAX Experience(R), the fastest grossing large-format film in Imax's history, generated record box office results at IMAX(R) theatres around the world. Fantasia/2000 grossed approximately $64 million during its four-month run while playing on only 75 screens. For the entire period, the per-screen average for Fantasia/2000 exceeded $50,000 per screen per week, more than 10 times the roughly $5,000 per screen per week generated by conventional film releases.

"We are extremely happy with the film's resounding success and applaud Roy Disney and the Disney organization for their vision to release the film in IMAX theatres," said Imax co-CEOs Richard L. Gelfond and Bradley J. Wechsler. "Disney created a very special event by using IMAX theatres to showcase such a unique film. We are thrilled with the box office results of the film, which exceeded our expectations, and believe that the film's success will help pave the way for more Hollywood films in IMAX theatres."
