LOS ANGELES, May 5, 2010 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) --IMAX Corporation (Nasdaq:IMAX) (TSX:IMX) today announced that Alice in Wonderland, directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway and Mia Wasikowska, has generated more than $60 million globally in box office revenues, including more than $37.6 million domestically and $22.5 million internationally. IMAX(R) theatres posted a domestic per screen average of $200,000 and an international per screen average of approximately $252,500. Alice in Wonderland is in the early part of its run in several international markets, including Japan, where the film grossed nearly $2 million in 17 days in four IMAX theatres.

"Disney's Alice in Wonderland is a terrific film with a powerful story and remarkable film-making that is ideal for consumers to see in IMAX(R) 3D, as indicated by the box office results in a shorter window," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "The strong box office results for this film are further confirmation of the strength of the IMAX brand and its ability to attract audiences who want to experience event titles in a premium way."

"IMAX is very pleased to have been included in Disney and Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, which is now one of the top ten grossing titles of all time," added Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "Disney is an excellent partner that creates great films, attracts incredible talent and puts marketing genius behind its titles, making them truly resonate with consumers."

Visionary filmmaker Tim Burton has put his distinctive touch on the combination live-action and performance capture version of Lewis Carroll's classic tale "Alice in Wonderland." The all-star cast includes Johnny Depp, Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Crispin Glover, Alan Rickman and Mia Wasikowska as Alice.
