Tolkien, will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX® 3D format. The film will be released in IMAX® internationally starting Dec. 12 and domestically beginning Dec. 14. (Logo: [http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20111107/MM01969LOGO](http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20111107/MM01969LOGO) ) "_The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey_ is the ideal story and visual spectacle to be experienced in IMAX 3D," said Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "Our mantra is to support the vision of trailblazers like Peter Jackson and we're pleased that select IMAX theatres will also be playing the film with our high frame rate system -- an exciting new way for moviegoers to experience this highly anticipated trilogy." The IMAX release of _The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey_ will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX 3D Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie. A select number of IMAX theatres will be presenting _The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey_ using a higher frame rate (HFR). You can learn more about _The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey_ by visiting Warner Bros. Pictures official site at [www.thehobbit.com](http://www.thehobbit.com/). **About High Frame Rate 3D (HFR 3D)** _The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey_  will be released in all motion picture formats, including the brand new format High Frame Rate 3D (HFR 3D).  With the support of select theatres, HFR 3D represents a technological advancement in the motion picture experience.  This innovative format presents the picture in 48 frames per second (fps), which is closer to what the human eye actually sees.  This is twice the rate of the standard 24 fps, which is the current format in cinemas worldwide.  In _The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,_ Peter Jackson has pushed the boundaries of new filmmaking techniques by capturing the movie in HFR 3D, marking the first use of this method in a major motion picture release. A complete list of IMAX® theatres that will be projecting the movie in HFR 3D can be found here: [http://imax.ly/SumIdL](http://imax.ly/SumIdL) **About** **_The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey_** The film follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who -- along with the Wizard Gandalf and 13 Dwarves, led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield -- is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome Dragon Smaug. Along the path, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of ingenuity and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of a "precious" ring tied to the fate of all Middle-Earth in ways he cannot begin to know. The screenplay for _The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey_ was written by Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens & Peter Jackson & Guillermo del Toro.  Jackson is also producing the film, together with Carolynne Cunningham, Zane Weiner and Fran Walsh.  The executive producers are Alan Horn, Toby Emmerich, Ken Kamins and Carolyn Blackwood, with Boyens and Eileen Moran serving as co-producers.  _The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey_ and the second and third films of the trilogy are productions of New Line Cinema and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures (MGM), with New Line managing production.  Warner Bros. Pictures is handling worldwide theatrical distribution, with select international territories as well as all international television distribution being handled by MGM. _The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: The_ IMAX Experience® is scheduled to play at the following IMAX theatres on Dec. 14: **UNITED STATES** **Alabama** _Hoover_ – Carmike Patton Creek 15 + IMAX _Huntsville_ – Carmike Valley Bend 18 + IMAX _Tuscaloosa_ – Cobb Hollywood 16 Cinemas + IMAX **Alaska** _Anchorage_ – Regal Tikahtnu Stadium 16 + IMAX _Fairbanks_ – Regal Goldstream Stadium 16 + IMAX **Arizona** _Glendale_ – AMC Westgate 20 with IMAX _Mesa_ – Dickinson Gateway 12 IMAX Theatre _Phoenix_ – AMC Deer Valley 30 with IMAX _Phoenix_ – AMC Desert Ridge 18 with IMAX _Tempe_ – Harkins Arizona Mills 25 with IMAX _Tucson_ – AMC Loews Foothills 15 with IMAX **Arkansas** _Little Rock_ – Dickinson Chenal 9 IMAX Theatre **California** _Alhambra_ – Regal Edwards Alhambra Renaissance Stadium 14 + IMAX _Aliso Viejo_ – Regal Aliso Viejo Stadium 20 + IMAX _Anaheim_ – AMC Downtown Disney 12 with IMAX _Arcadia_ – AMC Santa Anita 16 with IMAX _Brentwood_ – Rave Brentwood 14 + IMAX _Burbank_ – AMC Burbank 16 with IMAX _Camarillo_ – Regal Camarillo Palace Stadium 12 + IMAX _Cathedral City_ – Ultrastar Cinemas Desert IMAX _City of Industry_ – AMC Puente Hills 20 with IMAX _Covina_ – AMC Covina 30 with IMAX _Cupertino_ – AMC Cupertino Square 16 with IMAX _Dublin_ – Regal Hacienda Crossings Stadium 21 + IMAX _El Cajon_ – Regal Parkway Plaza Stadium 18 + IMAX _El Dorado Hills_ – Regal El Dorado Stadium 14 + IMAX _Emeryville_ – AMC Bay Street 16 with IMAX _Escondido_ – Regal Escondido Stadium 16 + IMAX _Fairfield_ – Regal Fairfield Stadium 16 + IMAX _Fresno_ – Regal Fresno Stadium 22 + IMAX _Irvine_ – Regal Irvine Spectrum 21 + IMAX _Lancaster_ – Cinemark 22 + IMAX _Long Beach_ – Regal Long Beach Stadium 26 + IMAX _Los Angeles_ – AMC Century City 15 with IMAX _Los Angeles_ – Rave 18 + IMAX _Los Angeles_ – AMC Universal Citywalk Stadium 19 with IMAX _National City_ – AMC Plaza Bonita 14 with IMAX _Norwalk_ – AMC Norwalk 20 with IMAX _Ontario_ – Regal Ontario Palace Stadium 22 + IMAX _Orange_ – AMC 30 At The Block with IMAX _Riverside_ – AMC Tyler Galleria 16 with IMAX _Sacramento_ – Esquire IMAX Theatre _San Diego_ – AMC Mission Valley 20 with IMAX _San Diego_ – AMC Palm Promenade 24 with IMAX _San Diego_ – Regal Mira Mesa Stadium 18 + IMAX _San Francisco_ – AMC Loews Metreon 16 with IMAX _San Francisco_ – AMC Van Ness 14 with IMAX _San Jose_ – AMC Eastridge 15 with IMAX _San Jose_ – AMC Saratoga 14 with IMAX _San Jose_ – The Tech Museum Hackworth IMAX Dome Theater _Santa Clara_ – AMC Mercado 20 with IMAX _Santa Clarita_ – Regal Valencia Stadium 12 + IMAX _Simi Valley_ – Regal Civic Center Stadium 16 + IMAX _South Gate_ – Regal South Gate Stadium 20 + IMAX _Stockton_ – Regal Stockton City Centre Stadium 16 + IMAX _Temecula_ – Regal Temecula Stadium 15 + IMAX _Torrance_ – AMC Del Amo 18 with IMAX _Woodland Hills_ – AMC Promenade 16 with IMAX **Colorado** _Aurora_ – AMC Arapahoe Crossing 16 + IMAX _Colorado Springs_ – Cinemark Carefree Circle + IMAX _Denver_ – Regal Colorado Center 9 + IMAX _Highlands Ranch_ – AMC Highlands Ranch 24 + IMAX _Lakewood_ – Regal UA Colorado Mills Stadium 16 + IMAX _Westminster_ – AMC Orchard 12 with IMAX _Westminster_ – AMC Westminster Promenade 24 with IMAX **Connecticut** _Danbury_ – AMC Loews Danbury 16 with IMAX _Manchester_ – Rave Buckland Hills 18 + IMAX _Milford_ – Rave Connecticut Post 14 + IMAX _Plainville_ – AMC Loews Plainville 20 with IMAX **Delaware** _Wilmington_ – Penn Cinema Riverfront IMAX **District of Columbia** _Washington_ – AMC Loews Georgetown 14 with IMAX _Washington_ – National Air + Space Museum Lockheed Martin IMAX**\*\*** _Washington_ – National Museum of Natural History Samuel C.
