Happy Friday, IMAX fans!
Today, we’re spotlighting a brand-new program announced this week from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences called Academy Gold — an entertainment industry-wide summer internship and mentoring program launching in June and aimed at providing opportunities for students and young professionals from underrepresented communities.
It truly is a community-wide initiative with IMAX partnering with other major Hollywood studios and content producers including The Walt Disney Company, Deluxe, HBO, Lionsgate/Starz, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Technicolor, Twentieth Century Fox, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures.
Here are the basics to the program: each partner will sponsor up to three interns from a nationwide pool of diverse talent for an eight-week program offering participants invaluable networking opportunities with Academy members and industry professionals, screenings and educational workshops.
What’s more, each Gold participant — totaling more than 50 interns, of whom 15 will be placed within the Academy — will be paired with an Academy member or industry professional as mentor.
Nancy Utley, Academy governor and president of Fox Searchlight Pictures, described the program aimed at talent diversification as a “shared commitment of the Academy and industry leaders to address one of the biggest challenges facing our community today and effectuate meaningful change.”
IMAX is proud to be part of this inclusive program that will enhance the Company’s already robust internship program.
