Title to Play in Record 270 IMAX Theatres Over Course of Run
Tim Burton and Johnny Depp Collaborate on A Classic Tale to Offer a Magical IMAX(R) 3D Experience
LOS ANGELES, March 2, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- IMAX Corporation (Nasdaq:IMAX) (TSX:IMX) today announced that Alice in Wonderland, directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen and Mia Wasikowska as Alice, will open in 188 domestic IMAX(R)theatres simultaneously with the films wide release on March 5, 2010. The film will also open in 53 IMAX theatres internationally this weekend, and ultimately will play in 82 international IMAX theatres for a total of 270 IMAX runs, which marks a new record. The special IMAX(R) 3D release has been digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience(R) with IMAX DMR(R) (Digital Re-Mastering) technology.
Commenting on the announcement, Chuck Viane, President, Distribution, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, said, "This fantastic interpretation of Alice in Wonderland is a film that truly deserves to be presented in Disney Digital 3D(TM) and the premium IMAX 3D format. It delivers an eye-popping cinematic experience, where moviegoers are taken down the rabbit hole and into dimensional worlds filled with incredible characters, sly humor, and wild adventures."
"There is an enormous amount of buzz and enthusiasm surrounding Alice in Wonderland, especially among fans of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. Were very excited to finally share this much-anticipated IMAX 3D adventure with them," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "We believe 3D fans are primed and ready for the next big IMAX 3D adventure and this magical film presents a great opportunity to deliver that to them."

"Alice in Wonderland combines the imagination of Tim Burtons creative vision with incredibly outrageous characters and world-class actors, making it a fantastic fit for The IMAX Experience," added Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "Disney has done a great job of making the IMAX release available to more IMAX theatres worldwide than ever before, giving more IMAX fans the opportunity to experience this very special movie event."
