Summit Entertainment's The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Opens in IMAX(R) Theatres Beginning June 30, 2010
LOS ANGELES, Jun 29, 2010 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) --IMAX Corporation (Nasdaq:IMAX) (TSX:IMX) and Summit Entertainment announced today that The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, the highly anticipated third film in the studio's Twilight franchise, will open in 193 IMAX(R) theatres in North America simultaneously with the film's launch on June 30, 2010. Directed by David Slade (30 DAYS OF NIGHT, HARD CANDY) and starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse has been digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience(R) with proprietary IMAX DMR(R) (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie. The film will also open in 11 international IMAX theatres in Australia, Mexico and Thailand, on July 1, 2010.
"Twilight Saga moviegoers will have a whole new way to experience this next installment of the series, with the enhanced image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience putting them IN the movie," said Richie Fay, Summit Entertainment's President of Domestic Theatrical Distribution.
"The buzz surrounding this film has been building for weeks, and it is encouraging to see that Twilight Saga fans, a completely new audience base for us, are driving advance IMAX ticket sales and sell-outs," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "This title fills a valuable spot in our 2010 summer release window, and will no doubt thrill IMAX audiences."
"We're very excited to be a part of the Twilight mania and look forward to transporting the very loyal and enthusiastic fans into the world of Bella, Edward and Jacob via The IMAX Experience," added Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "Summit Entertainment has been a great partner to work with, and we're very pleased with the way IMAX has been incorporated into their impressive marketing campaign."
In The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between Edward and Jacob -- knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.
About the TWILIGHT SAGA film series
The TWILIGHT SAGA film series stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson and tells the story of 17-year-old Bella Swan who moves to the small town of Forks, Washington to live with her father, and becomes drawn to Edward Cullen, a pale, mysterious classmate who seems determined to push her away. But neither can deny the attraction that pulls them together...even when Edward confides that he and his family are vampires. The action-packed, modern day vampire love story TWILIGHT, the first film in the series, was released in theatres on November 21, 2008 to a blockbuster reception. The second installment of the film franchise, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner, was released November 20, 2009. The franchise has grossed over $1.1 billion in worldwide box office ticket sales to date.
