Review: Rocky Mountain Express

In this Imax film, a rebuilt steam locomotive chugs eastward from Vancouver, as we learn about the improbable project to build a railway across Canada. The history lesson is interrupted by spectacular scenery and a few thrilling sequences from the front of the engine. The story of the trans-Canada railroad has been told many times, but there's a special lift in watching it from the front of old 2816, a class H1b Hudson-type locomotive. Back in the 1930s, 2816 pulled passenger trains between Winnipeg and Calgary. Since 2001, it's been re-named the Empress and tours Canada as a sort of steam-driven goodwill ambassador for Canadian Pacific Railway. Read More on canada.com
