Where do I park?
Free validated parking is available, when you purchase an IMAX admission, in the attached White River State Park underground parking garage on Washington Street. Guest will enter the White River State Park underground garage from Washington Street.
This section of Washington Street flows one-way west-bound and guest will find the White River State Park underground garage on the north (right) side of the street, opposite the JW Marriott property.
IMAX validation is still available on special event days where event parking rates are active – while space is available. Guests should alert the parking garage attendant that you are visiting the IMAX Theater when entering.
Bus and motor coach parking is available nearby at the White River State Park south (surface) lot, for groups with reservations. The garage is owned by White River State Park and operated by Republic Parking. Call Republic Parking at (317) 234-0231 if you have any questions.
Can I refund a ticket(s) that I purchased?
All tickets purchased for the IMAX Theatre are non-refundable.
If you are unable to make the original show time on your ticket(s), we are able to exchange them for a different date and showtime at our box office BEFORE the start of the original movie date and time. Once the show has started we are not able to swap your ticket(s).
Do you have reserved seating?
Yes, we offer reserved seating for all Special Engagement and Standard Engagement shows.
Do you offer wheelchair accessible spots and companion seating? As is designated on the seating chart when you purchased your tickets, we have wheelchair accessible spots in our auditorium, Row M. If you have purchased seats 8, 9, 13, 14, 18 & 19 in row M you are located in one of those spots. There are no physical seats in those spots. The remainder of the seats color coded purple in Row M are reserved for the companions of our wheelchair-bound patrons.
Do you offer closed captioning?
This IMAX Theater is pleased to offer its guests CaptiView™, a digitally compatible closed caption viewing system, created by Doremi Cinema, for all IMAX digital presentations. This system is currently not available for IMAX film presentations and some special events. The CaptiView™ system consists of a small captioning display unit with a flexible support arm that fits into the IMAX seat's cup holder. If you have any questions please let us know by clicking here.
Where is the IMAX Theater located?
The IMAX Theater is located inside the Indiana State Museum at 650 West Washington St., Indianapolis IN 46204 at the intersection of West and Washington streets, in White River State Park (WRSP). The IMAX Theater is within walking distance of Lucas Oil Stadium, the Indiana Convention Center and Circle Center Mall.
Do you offer Gift Cards?
Yes, we have gift cards for sale at the IMAX box office. You can use your IMAX Theater gift card to see any film or buy any product at our theater concession stand.
Is there public transportation?
IndyGo operates six bus routes that directly serve White River State Park and Military Park. For more information on IndyGo service, visit the IndyGo.net.
Are there bike racks?
Yes, there are bike racks conveniently located by the Washington St and Canal entrance doors to the building.
What time should I arrive to the IMAX Theater?
Please plan on arriving at the IMAX Theater 15 – 20 minutes prior to the start time of the show you plan on seeing. If you purchase your tickets in advance you can proceed directly to the IMAX Auditorium doors.
We encourage you to plan ahead before visiting the IMAX Theater. Since we are located in the heart of downtown Indy there are often times many events going on that can slow down commuter travel. The Indiana Department of Transportation has current information on road conditions. In addition, there may be detours due to special events. Visit Downtown Indianapolis Inc. for updated special event detour information.
If we expect larger than normal amounts of guests due to the popularity of a particular film we will alert guests via email and social media, Facebook & Twitter.
Do you have a concession stand?
We offer a full slate of traditional concession items, as well as specialty items like fresh baked pizzas and pretzels. Most of our items are sourced locally!
Do you serve alcohol?
In addition to snacks and soft drinks, we serve local beer and wine for the over 21 crowd. There is a two-drink max per transaction so please plan accordingly.
Do you show trailers prior to your films?
We make an effort to limit trailers to 10 minutes to keep the focus on the film you bought tickets for! We find that some of our customers are expecting 20+ minutes of trailers - not so at IMAX Indy. If you are seeing an IMAX 15/70mm film presentation, as designated on the ticket you purchase, there will be NO trailers prior to the film. Please plan accordingly so you do not miss the start of your show!
Do you show films in 2D or 3D?
We show both 2D and 3D. Please pay close attention to the tickets you are purchasing as the show and show time will specify 3D if the presentation you are seeing will be presented in the format.
I purchased IMAX tickets in advance but I’ve not received an email with my tickets?
If you purchased your ticket in advance but have not received your electronic tickets via email, please contact us at our Customer Service Request Form or stop by the theater box office during normal operating hours and we can print your tickets for you, even the day of the show. Pease come prepared with the credit card you purchased the tickets with and your photo ID.
Do I need to print my tickets at home before I get to the IMAX Theater?
To help insure we get everyone into the theater in a safe and timely manner we ask that you either print out your electronic tickets or ensure that you have your tickets on your phone ready and at full brightness when you approach the auditorium. Every phone setting is different and adjusting them on site for scanning takes extra time.
Do you have a costume policy?
Costumes will be permitted, but for your safety and to not detract from the movie-going experience we ask that all masks and helmets be removed prior to entering the theater auditorium. We also ask that weapons that resemble firearms or that would make other guests feel uncomfortable stay home.
Do you allow bags in the IMAX Theater?
No large bags, backpacks, duffel bags, suitcases and briefcases will be allowed in the theater. Plan to leave them at home or in your vehicle. We also reserve the right to request to look inside bags before allowing them into the auditorium.
Do you have on site security?
Our amazing hosts at the Indiana State Museum have a 24 hour in-house security department. For the busier films that generate additional traffic to the building, we often added additional security in the theater lobby to ensure the health and safety of our guests. The theater staff and its security team reserves the right to remove anyone from the premises at any time and for any reason.
Do you offer any discounts?
Yes. Indiana State Museum guests receive $2 off IMAX admission with the purchase of a full-priced Indiana State Museum ticket on the same day.
Director’s Club members receive $2.50 off tickets and 20% off concessions, excluding alcohol.
Discounts cannot be combined or used in combination with other offers and must be purchased at the IMAX Theater box office.
