Our Three Key Pillars
We focus on three key pillars to drive social impact.

Inspiring and empowering the next generation of filmmakers.

Creating opportunities for underserved communities.

Preservation and enhancement of our planet for future generations.
Experiencing The Natural World
We believe in making a global social impact by using our cutting-edge technology to capture the beauty of the natural world through filmmaking. IMAX’s catalog of original documentaries includes "A Beautiful Planet", "Born to be Wild", "Pandas", "To the Arctic", and "Island of Lemurs: Madagascar". The company continues work with educators and learning centers to create educational guides for our documentaries to be used by teachers in classrooms.
IMAX is partnering with Adam McKay’s Hyperobject Industries on the forthcoming original documentary “Stormbound,” which chronicles the dangerous world of storm chasing and extreme weather events in the United States. Featuring remarkable unseen footage of Hurricanes Charley, Florence, Ian, Irma, and Katrina, "Stormbound" will showcase nature's raw power with an inspiring true story of hope and survival. The film, shot with IMAX cameras, is currently in production and slated for release across the IMAX network in 2025.
IMAX In Action
IMAX Impact Day is our global day of service. Across IMAX offices in six different countries, employees roll up their sleeves to partner with a variety of charitable organizations, heading out into their communities to make a positive impact with groups doing important work on food insecurity, homelessness, mental illness, environmental preservation and much more. In addition to employee time, IMAX contributes financially to all organizations involved.

Empowering Future Film Makers
The Los Angeles IMAX office hosted a group of high schoolers from the LA area as part of the All-American High School Film Festival (AAHSFF)(opens in new window), an organization dedicated to empowering young artists to share their stories and transform their world through digital media.
The group sat down for a discussion hosted by Tom Oliva, Founder of AAHSFF, which featured senior members of the IMAX Post-Production team. The trio from IMAX entertained the crowd with great stories, provided insights into the industry and fielded questions from the next generation of filmmakers in attendance, before joining the audience to view a collection of 15 curated films – the best of the best entries to the Film Festival throughout its 12-year history. We’re looking forward to crossing paths with many of these young filmmakers again as they make their way into the entertainment industry in the coming years!

Partnerships In The Industry
IMAX and the University of Southern California (USC) have a long history of collaboration, covering partnerships with filmmakers and creatives, internship programs, screenings, and a robust alumni base. Most recently, we partnered up on a 3-day workshop to immerse students in the process of filming with IMAX cameras at the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area in California. Matt Scott, an adjunct professor at USC, led the workshop and guided the students as they captured footage using both IMAX film and IMAX-certified digital cameras. The workshop provided students with practical filmmaking skills, including scouting, creating an outline, location and transportation safety, lens and shot selection, framing for IMAX aspect ratios, adapting shooting plans to changing conditions, and more. Following the workshop, the USC film students visited our Playa Vista office, where our team provided a tour of the facility, reviewed the footage, and educated them on the technologies we use to optimize a film for IMAX after it’s finished shooting.
Supporting Our Veterans
IMAX teamed up with Glen Powell and Bad Robot on an exclusive theatrical trailer for The Blue Angels Foundation(opens in new window), and organization that supports wounded veterans by providing funding for critical services and access to the best care available in the nation as they transition back to the civilian community. The organization focuses on transitional housing, post-traumatic stress treatment and suicide prevention to help veterans restore self-esteem, build confidence, and provide hope for a bright future.
The trailer ran nationwide in IMAX ahead of the IMAX Original Documentary “The Blue Angels” during its one-week IMAX-exclusive run in May 2024.
