Management

Richard (Rich) Gelfond is Chief Executive Officer of IMAX Corporation, one of the world's leading entertainment technology companies. Under his leadership, IMAX has evolved from a niche purveyor of nature and science documentaries to a Hollywood movie force — both as a high-tech exhibitor and a creative partner in the movie-making process. IMAX’s proprietary technology has also evolved with time to suit the needs of moviegoers around the world, and today provides the public with a premium entertainment experience. IMAX has more than 1,700 theatres in over 80 countries, which showcase Hollywood blockbusters and local-language content to fans around the world. Gelfond, one of entertainment’s longest-tenured executives, joined IMAX in 1994 as co-chairman after his firm, Cheviot Capital Advisors, bought the company. Gelfond previously served as an investment banker in mergers and acquisitions with Drexel Burnham Lambert. Gelfond holds a BA from Stony Brook University and a law degree from Northwestern University. Gelfond is a member of the Motion Picture Academy of Arts & Science. In 1996, Gelfond and investment partner Brad Wechsler received an Academy Award on behalf of IMAX for Scientific and Technical Achievement.
Vikram Arumilli joined IMAX in October 2019 as Chief of Staff, and was appointed as General Manager, IMAX Enhanced, and Senior Vice President, IMAX Corporation in 2021. In this role, Arumilli oversees the SSIMWAVE and IMAX Enhanced divisions, growing sectors of the business which combine proprietary streaming technology and remastered content to leverage the home entertainment market. He also serves as a board member for SSIMWAVE, a wholly-owned subsidiary of IMAX. Arumilli is a graduate of Stanford University and University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business, from which he received a Masters of Business Administration.
Pablo Calamera joined the Company in March 2020 as Chief Technology Officer and Executive Vice President, IMAX Corporation. Previously, Calamera served as CTO of JW Player, the world’s largest network-independent video platform, where he led engineering teams and was responsible for managing market-leading innovations for JW Player’s business globally. Before joining JW Player, Calamera held roles as CTO of Vonage, CTO of ClearChannel, where he was responsible for all of iHeartRadio’s technology initiatives, and CTO of Thumbplay, a cloud-based music streaming company that was acquired by ClearChannel in 2011. Prior to Thumbplay, he held senior technology leadership and engineering positions at Apple, where he served as Director of Engineering, as well as Microsoft, WebTV, Danger and AT&T Labs.
Craig Dehmel joined the Company in September 2016 as Executive Vice President/Head of Global Distribution, IMAX Entertainment. Dehmel manages the global theatrical release planning and execution of Hollywood, local, documentary, and special content releases to IMAX screens worldwide. Prior to joining the Company, he managed the theatrical release planning and execution of all 20th Century Fox-distributed titles in over 100 countries during his sixteen-year career with Fox. A member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, Dehmel has been a guest lecturer at the Anderson School of Business (UCLA) for the past 15 years, teaching a seminar on the fundamentals of the worldwide theatrical business. He is also a regular guest speaker at the Annenberg School of Communications and Peter Stark Producing Program, both at USC. Dehmel is a Philadelphia, PA native with a B.A. in History from Colgate University and an MBA in Entertainment Management and Strategy from the Anderson School at UCLA.
Giovanni Dolci joined the Company in October 2012 as Vice President, Theatre Development, and was appointed Chief Sales Officer in April 2021. Before that, Dolci held the position of Head of Global Sales since January 2020. Dolci also held the position of Vice President, Theatre Development and Managing Director, Europe and Africa beginning in January 2017, and became Senior Vice President in March 2018. Prior to joining the Company, he was Director of Business Development and Commercial Operations at Arts Alliance Media. Before his time at Arts Alliance Media, Dolci worked in film financing, focusing on several projects in New Zealand, Italy and the UK. He also serves on the Board of Directors of IMAX Theatres International Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of IMAX Corporation. Dolci has a degree in Economics and Management from Bocconi University in Milan and an MSc in Management from Cass Business School in London. He is a former Junior Fellow of the Aspen Institute in Italy.
Natasha Fernandes is Chief Financial Officer of IMAX Corporation, a role she assumed in May 2022. Fernandes’ promotion to CFO is the culmination of a 15-year career with the Company, during which she has held numerous leadership roles in Finance. Prior to assuming the role of Deputy Financial Officer in 2021, Fernandes served as Corporate Treasurer since 2018. Most recently, she led the Company’s successful $200 million convertible debt offering in 2021 and new credit agreement in 2022. Earlier, she held other financial positions including Assistant Controller, as well as Director, Financial Reporting for IMAX. Prior to joining IMAX, Fernandes was an Audit Manager of Manufacturing & Service Industries at Deloitte. She is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with Honours from Wilfrid Laurier University.
Michele Golden is the Global Chief People Officer for IMAX. In this role she leads all Human Resources functions for the Company. She joined IMAX in September 2022 after over 20 years of media and entertainment experience launching and scaling some of the industry’s most recognizable brands. Before joining IMAX, Golden served as the Chief Human Resources Officer for HBO Max, WarnerMedia’s global streaming platform. Prior to this assignment, Golden was the Chief People Officer for AT&T’s former adtech unit, Xandr, leading its integration into WarnerMedia. Before joining Xandr, and before the Company’s acquisition by AT&T, she led the Human Resources functions for many well-known media and entertainment brands including Turner Sports, TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network and Bleacher Report, as well as three professional sports team, the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Hawks, and the Atlanta Thrashers. In 2020, she was recognized with a Golden Stevie® award for Chief Human Resources Officer of the Year in Advertising, Marketing & Public Relations.
Jennifer Horsley was appointed Senior Vice President of Investor Relations in August 2022. She joined the company from leading adtech firm Taboola, where she was part of the core executive team that took the company public in June 2021. She oversees the Company’s worldwide investor relations strategy and serves as its leader with the investment community as IMAX seeks to evolve and grow its global entertainment technology platform. She has more than twenty years of experience across investor relations, financial management, strategic planning, and communications. Prior to Taboola, she served as Vice President of Investor Relations for leading product engineering services company QuEST Global, preparing the company for a planned IPO and supporting mergers and acquisitions. She spent the first two decades of her career at Fortune 500 firm Xerox Corporation, where she held roles across financial operations, FP&A and accounting before ultimately rising to the role of Vice President of Investor Relations.
Mark Jafar joined the Company in June 2019 as Global Head of Corporate Communications, IMAX Corporation. In this role Jafar oversees all communications and media relations for the Company, working across the company’s business and entertainment divisions. He also supports domestic and global efforts to communicate IMAX’s brand narrative, strategic partnerships, and more. Previously Jafar served as Vice President, Corporate Communications, at BuzzFeed where he led corporate communications and entertainment publicity for the company’s executives and across its numerous brands, technology and content arms, marketing functions and more. From 2006-2017, he held several communications leadership roles at Viacom including Senior Vice President, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs at MTV. Jafar began his career at Robinson Lerer & Montgomery.
Robert Lister joined the Company in May 1999 as Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs and General Counsel, and currently serves as Chief Legal Officer and Senior Executive Vice President of IMAX Corporation. Mr. Lister has held numerous positions at the Company, including Chief Legal Officer and Chief Business Development Officer, Senior Executive Vice President and General Counsel and Executive Vice President, Business & Legal Affairs, Corporate Communications and General Counsel. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Lister was Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary of Clearview Cinemas, a film exhibitor, from March 1998 until his employment with the Company. From 1996 to 1998, Mr. Lister served as Associate General Counsel of Merit Behavioral Care Corporation, a behavioral healthcare company. Mr. Lister serves on the Board of Directors of TCL-IMAX Entertainment Co., Ltd., a joint venture of TCL Corporation and the Company, and until March 2016, served as its Chairman. Mr. Lister is a member of the New York State Bar Association.
Bruce Markoe joined the Company in July 2015 as Senior Vice President of Post Production/Operations and DMR. Mr. Markoe works closely with filmmakers to utilize IMAX cameras and new technologies to best optimize and produce their movies for the immersive IMAX theatrical and home formats. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Markoe ran Post Production at Marvel Studios, Overture Films, Revolution Studios, MGM Studios, George Lucas’ Skywalker Sound South and JHD Sound. Mr. Markoe is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in the Sound Branch. He has been a featured speaker and mentor over the years at post production industry and educational events.
ANNE GLOBE - Chief Marketing Officer
Kenneth Weissman joined the Company in October 2011 as Vice President, Legal Affairs, and has held the position of Senior Vice President, Legal Affairs since 2015. In January 2018, Weissman was appointed Corporate Secretary and was also appointed by the Company’s Audit Committee as Chief Compliance Officer, responsible for oversight of the Company’s Whistle Blower Program. Before joining the Company, Weissman was Senior Corporate Counsel at Sony Corporation of America, where he held various positions from 2004 through 2011. Prior to that, Weissman was an associate lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in New York and Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault in Boston, and served as a law clerk to the Hon. Judith S. Kaye, Chief Judge of the State of New York. Weissman is Corporate Secretary to the Board of Directors of TCL-IMAX Entertainment Co., Ltd., a joint venture of TCL Corporation and the Company. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Association of Corporate Counsel.
Mark Welton joined the Company in July 1997 as Director, Business Affairs and was appointed President, IMAX Theatres in October 2011. Previous to that, Mr. Welton held the position of Executive Vice President, Corporate and Digital Development & Theatre Operation since April 2007. Mr. Welton has held various other positions within the Company including: Senior Vice President, Business Affairs; Senior Vice President, Theatre Operations; and Executive Vice President, Theatre Operations & General Manager, Digital. Prior to joining the Company, Mr. Welton was an associate lawyer at the law firm Stikeman, Elliot LLP from 1994 until his employment with the Company. Prior to that, Mr. Welton was an associate accountant at Ernst & Young. Mr. Welton is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Board

Darren Throop has been a director of the Company since June 2015. Throop has been President and CEO of Entertainment One Ltd., a leading international entertainment company that specializes in the acquisition, production and distribution of film and television content, since July 2003. From 1999 to 2003, Throop was Chief Executive Officer, Records on Wheels Group Partner. Previously, he was the owner of Urban Sound Exchange between 1991 and 1999. Throop has over 20 years of executive management experience in the entertainment industry. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Entertainment One Ltd. and is a member of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Throop is a member of the Company’s Compensation Committee. His experience in the growth of an entrepreneurial and international entertainment company which is engaged in film distribution, television and music production, programming, merchandising and licensing further strengthens the Board’s expertise in these areas.
Richard Gelfond has been sole Chief Executive Officer of the Company since April 2009 and has been a director since March 1994. Mr. Gelfond served as Co-Chairman of the Company with Mr. Wechsler from June 1999 to March 2009 and served as Co-Chief Executive Officer with Mr. Wechsler from May 1996 to March 2009. From March 1994 to June 1999, Mr. Gelfond served as Vice Chairman of the Company. Mr. Gelfond has also been the Chairman and Non-Executive Director of the Company’s subsidiary, IMAX China Holding, Inc., since May 27, 2015, and has been a director of IMAX China Holding, Inc. since 2010. Mr. Gelfond serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Stony Brook Foundation, Inc., which is affiliated with Stony Brook University. He is also a member of the Motion Picture Academy of Arts & Sciences. Mr. Gelfond serves on the International Advisory Board of the Turkana Basin Institute, a non-profit initiative focusing on field research in the Lake Turkana Basin of Kenya. Mr. Gelfond served as the Chairman of the Columbia Shuttle Memorial Trust Steering Committee, which was established in co-operation with NASA to support the families of the seven crew members of the STS-107 mission of the Space Shuttle Columbia, which came to a tragic end on February 1, 2003. Mr. Gelfond’s long service as Chief Executive Officer of the Company (formerly Co-Chief Executive Officer), as well as his marketing, financial, legal and capital markets expertise, combined with his extensive knowledge of the business, operations and domestic and international markets of the Company and his relationships with studios, exhibitors and senior management with the Company, are valuable assets to the Board.
Gail Berman is recognized as one of the most prolific content creators in entertainment, having launched award-winning properties for television, film, digital, and the Broadway stage. As the Chair and Chief Executive Officer of The Jackal Group, she oversees the production studio’s slate across scripted and unscripted television, feature films, and commercial theater. The company’s feature film projects include Baz Luhrmann’s Academy Award®-nominated “Elvis”, MGM’s “The Addams Family 2”, and the forthcoming Terry McMillan adaptation “I Almost Forgot About You” with NBC/Universal. Among many other TV projects in active development, Berman is an executive producer of the current hit Netflix series “Wednesday”. Prior to The Jackal Group, Berman was co-founder and co-owner of BermanBraun, a multiplatform media production company. Earlier, Berman was President of Paramount Pictures, where she oversaw the studio’s film slate, and President of Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting Company. Among the many honors she’s received throughout her career, Berman has been named among Fortune’s 50 Most Powerful Women in America and Forbes’ 100 Most Powerful Women in the World. Berman served as President of the Producers Guild of America from 2018 – 2022.
Eric Demirian has been a director of the Company since September 2010. Mr. Demirian has been President of Parklea Capital Inc., a boutique financial advisory and strategy firm since 2003, and is President of Demicap Inc., a private investment firm. Prior to Mr. Demirian’s position at Parklea Capital he held the position of Executive Vice President of Group Telecom, Inc. from 2000 to 2003. Mr. Demirian’s previous positions include, partner and head of Information and Communication Practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers (1983-2000) and Internal Auditor at the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (1980-1983). Mr. Demirian serves as non-executive Chair of the Board of Directors of Descartes Systems Group. He also serves on the boards of Enghouse Systems Ltd. and Redline Communications Inc. Mr. Demirian is a former director and Chair of the Audit Committee of Leisure Canada Inc. (2010–2011), Menu Foods Income Fund (2005-2010) and Keystone North America Inc. (2007–2010). Mr. Demirian has also served as a member of the Advisory Council for the School of Accounting & Finance at Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University, advisor to the Accounting Standards Board of CPA (Canada) and as Director and Treasurer for the Parkinson Foundation of Canada. He is a Chartered Professional Accountant, a Chartered Accountant and a Certified General Accountant. Mr. Demirian serves as Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Company. Mr. Demirian’s accounting experience combined with his substantial business and transaction experience make him well suited to assist the Board in its assessment of financial and accounting matters. With his strong financial background, Mr. Demirian meets the SEC definition of an Audit Committee financial expert.
Kevin Douglas has been a Director of the Company since October 2016. Mr. Douglas has been the Chairman and Founder of Douglas Telecommunications, a family investment office through which Mr. Douglas manages the Douglas family investment portfolio since 1995. Prior to Douglas Telecommunications, he was Chairman of the Board at Rural Cellular Management Corporation. Mr. Douglas has served on the board of KSR International Co. since 1985 and was formerly on the board of Stamps.com from 2003 to 2009. Mr. Douglas is IMAX Corporation’s largest individual investor and has been a shareholder since 2007. In 2014, the Company partnered with Mr. Douglas and his spouse, Michelle Douglas, to donate an IMAX® theatre to the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts. The Michelle and Kevin Douglas IMAX Theatre and Immersive Media Lab serves as a research and teaching facility for students to learn IMAX filmmaking as well as other immersive entertainment experiences. Mr. Douglas is a member of the Company’s Compensation Committee. Mr. Douglas’ long association with the Company has given him a broad understanding of the Company’s business, its products and the markets in which it operates. Mr. Douglas’ investment and business experience with technology and other companies, together with his expertise in identifying new opportunities for investment and growth, are valuable resources for the IMAX board. 
David Leebron has been a director of the Company since September 2003. Mr. Leebron has been the President of Rice University since July 2004. Prior to July 2004, Mr. Leebron held the position of Dean at Columbia University School of Law since 1996 and Professor of Law since 1989. Mr. Leebron is on the Council on Foreign Relations, the board of the Greater Houston Partnership, and served as Chair of the Association of American Universities (AAU) from 2016 to 2017. Mr. Leebron serves as Lead Independent Director and Chairman of the Governance Committee of the Company, and is also a member of the Company’s Audit Committee. Mr. Leebron brings his broad legal experience, leadership and management skills as President of Rice University and former Dean of Columbia Law School to the Board which makes him well suited to assess legal risks and other challenges faced by the Company, as well as to apply his experience to governance issues faced by the Company and the Board.
Michael MacMillan has been a director of the Company since June 2013. Mr. MacMillan is Chief Executive Officer of Blue Ant Media, a Canadian media company which he co-founded in 2011. Blue Ant is a producer, distributor and broadcaster with active operations in Toronto, Los Angeles, Auckland, London and elsewhere internationally. Mr. MacMillan was Chairman and/or CEO of Alliance Atlantis Communications from 1998 to 2007. Mr. MacMillan co-founded Atlantis Films Limited in 1978 which acquired Alliance Communications in a reverse takeover in 1998 and the company subsequently became Alliance Atlantis Communications. Mr. MacMillan retired from Alliance Atlantis in 2007 after selling the company to Canwest Communications and Goldman Sachs. In 2007, he co-founded Samara, a think tank that works to strengthen political engagement in Canada through innovative research and educational programs, and serves as Chair. Mr. MacMillan is co-founder and co-owner of Closson Chase, a vineyard and winery in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. A member of the Order of Canada, Mr. MacMillan has volunteered with numerous community and industry organizations over many years, and is currently involved with Open Roof Films, Human Rights Watch, and Civix, amongst other organizations. Mr. MacMillan is a member of the Company’s Governance Committee. Mr. MacMillan’s extensive experience in the entertainment industry as well as his ownership interests in various private companies and involvement with charitable organizations gives him a broad expertise, in film and television production, digital publishing and other media, thus bringing additional expertise to the Board in these areas.
Steve Pamon joined the Board in 2021. He most recently served as the President and Chief Operating Officer of Beyoncé's management and production company, Parkwood Entertainment, where he was the architect of the wildly successful 'On the Run' tour and was awarded both a Grammy Award for "Homecoming" and a Peabody Award for the visual album "Lemonade" as Executive Producer. Prior to Parkwood Entertainment, Pamon held executive positions at JPMorgan Chase & Co., the NFL and HBO, and has been widely recognized for his success managing high-performance brands across film, music, event production and more. Pamon also sits on the board of World Wresting Entertainment ("WWE"), the board of New York Road Runners – a non-profit organization that produces more than 100 sports events each year including the famed New York City Marathon – and is a founding advisory board member for the "Launch with GS" fund, Goldman Sachs' $500 million dollar investment fund that aims to increase access to capital and connections for diverse entrepreneurs.
Dana Settle has been a director of the Company since July 2015. Ms. Settle has been a Partner and Co-Founder of Greycroft Partners, a venture capital fund based in New York City and Los Angeles focused on investments in the internet and mobile markets since March 2006. Throughout her career, Ms. Settle has played a key role in the success of many technology startups. Prior to Greycroft, where she heads the firm’s West Coast arm in Los Angeles, Ms. Settle spent several years as a venture capitalist and adviser to startup companies in the Bay Area. Ms. Settle currently serves on the boards of Greycroft’s investments in AppAnnie, EBTH.com, Thrive Market, Steelhouse, TheRealReal, Clique Media Group, RocketJump and WideOrbit. She also managed the firm’s investments in Maker Studios (sold to Disney), Trunk Club (sold to JWN), Viddy (sold to FullScreen), AwesomenessTV (sold to Dreamworks), Digisynd (sold to Disney), ContentNext (sold to Guardian Media), Pulse (sold to LinkedIn) and Sometrics (sold to American Express). Ms. Settle’s additional experience includes business development at Truveo (AOL), investment banking at Lehman Brothers and international business development at McCaw Cellular Communications (AT&T). Ms. Settle is a member of the Company’s Governance Committee. Ms. Settle’s extensive experience in the private equity markets, as well as her Board positions and ownership interests in various digital and other start-up companies, gives her a broad expertise in emerging technology and media markets which is beneficial to the Board as it examines new opportunities. Ms. Settle also has experience in business development and investment banking which is relevant to the Board’s oversight of its financial matters.
Jen Wong has deep expertise across the media industry, with a focus on building successful consumer digital businesses for leading global media portfolios and brands, including Time Inc., PopSugar, and AOL. Wong has been Chief Operating Officer of Reddit since 2018 and in her role oversees business strategy and growth for the global community and discussion platform. During her tenure, Jen has led the growth of Reddit’s advertising business, evolved the platform’s content and advertising policies, and expanded the brand and company to international markets including the UK, France, Germany, Australia and Canada. Prior to this, Wong served as the Chief Operating Officer and President of Digital at Time Inc., where she led the consumer and digital businesses for some of the world’s leading media brands, such as People, Fortune, Time, Real Simple, Food & Wine, Travel + Leisure, across digital advertising, video, paid consumer services, and licensing. Wong also served as Chief Business Officer at PopSugar and Senior Vice President and General Manager of Lifestyle and Global Head of Business Operations at AOL. An influential and highly visible executive across the digital media industry, Wong was number one on Fast Company’s 2022 Queer 50 list. She also serves on the boards of consumer banking firm Discover Financial Services and mobile ad tech company Marfeel Solutions, as well as nonprofit organization the Ad Council.
