La La Land Oscar Nominations
Congratulations! La La Land and Other IMAX Titles Land Oscar Nominations
Jan 24, 2017

Oscar nominations are in and a HUGE congratulations to Lionsgate’s La La Land, which is leading the pack with a record-tying 14 nominations, including for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay as well as nods for its leading stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

The film, which received a special limited engagement in IMAX theatres this month, tied previous record-nomination holders, Titanic and All About Eve.

La La Land scored additional nods for cinematography, film editing, production design, costume design, score and two separate bids for original song for “Audition (The Fools Who Dream)” and “City of Stars” — the latter of which was featured on the back-side of an exclusive IMAX poster given away at opening weekend screenings of La La Land in IMAX.

In addition to La La Land, several other films which received IMAX runs managed to make the Oscar shortlist:

Those films are Disney’s Zootopia for Animated Feature, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (Sound Mixing, Visual Effects), Doctor Strange (Visual Effects) and The Jungle Book (Visual Effects); Warner Bros.’ Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (Costume Design, Production Design), Sully (Sound Editing) and Suicide Squad (Makeup and Hairstyling); Paramount’s Star Trek Beyond (Makeup and Hairstyling); and Lionsgate’s Deepwater Horizon (Sound Editing, Visual Effects).

There is a total of 26 nominations for films with IMAX releases (spread across 10 films total).

Congratulations to all of the wonderfully talented individuals nominated from all of us at IMAX!
